What We Do

The Senior Law Day Collaborative offers free educational seminars and one-to-one 15-minute consultations, tapping the knowledge and energy of attorneys, financial planners, and geriatric care managers. We offer the opportunity to meet with experts who can provide authoritative advice on important, and sometimes not-so-easy to discuss topics, such as:

  • housing options
  • wills vs. trusts
  • ways to pay for long-term care
  • how to put your estate in order

Senior Law Day programs are free and are presented by the Westchester County Public Private Partnership for Aging Services, the Westchester County Department of Senior Programs and Services, and attorneys, financial advisers and care managers from the public and private sectors.  Our programs address all aspects of elder law, financial planning and geriatric care management.

Our consultation events are held every three months on Zoom (10am-12pm) in addition to in person events that resumed in 2023. Our live educational webinars  are offered every two weeks via Zoom.

Want to bring these free workshops to your community? Please call or email Sarah A. Steckler, Senior Law Day Collaborative Program Coordinator. (914) 946-4777 Ext. 338

About Free Legal Services

The Senior Law Day Collaborative provides free 15-min consultations intended to answer specific questions for Westchester seniors and their families that provide direction on how to take informed actions to address their legal and financial needs. This type of service is referred to as a limited scope consultation – a free consultation by a professional that does not imply a client relationship.  When you register for a consultation, you will be asked to confirm your understanding of this relationship as detailed in this SLD Collaborative Waiver and Consent for Free Consultation.

Our ASK US service offers an ongoing opportunity to ask a specific question of our Collaborative members.  The Westchester Library System manages the intake for these questions, referring you to existing content on the Senior Law Day Collaborative website and/or making a referral to a Collaborative team member for a breif response.

Additionally, you are welcome to connect directly with any member of the Collaborative for legal or financial services; we can assist in finding a Collaborative member who might specialize in your area of interest.  As with all such relationships, be sure to clarify rates for service before you commit to engage any professional.

The Collaborative is not a legal clinic, which is a type of organization that may be able to represent you for free or on a sliding scale.  However, we can make a referral to one should that be appropriate to your interests and needs.

In addition to seniorlawday.info, several websites provide information on legal topics that can support you in taking independent action.  We encourage you to explore these resources and to exercise appropriate caution.  In our educational programming, we provide information on when you may wish to engage a professional.  Typically, for documents such as a power of attorney or establishing a trust, i.e., where significant funds or authority is granted to an individual or entity, we recommend you work with a licensed professional.

Feel free to ask our Collaborative members about what actions you can take on your own with confidence and where additional guidance may be both most cost effective and most needed to assure your goals.

Collaborative Members

All of the members of our Collaborative volunteer their time and expertise.  The current roster of active Collaborative members is linked here.  All those listed have participated in our discussions and public service events within the last two years.  You may wish to consider these professionals when seeking an elder law attorney, financial planner, geriatric care manager, or other senior-services specialist.
